Medical Gas – Brazing

Medical Gas Class with ICRA Certification

The Medical Gas Installers class prepares the student to take a 100 question closed book test on the current edition of NFPA 99 and ASSE 6000. Successful completion with 80% on an NITC online exam, and a practical test on brazing. Brazing certifications include the NITC Medical Gas braze and the UA-51.

The Medical Gas class follows the guidelines and requirements current editions of NFPA 99, ASSE 6000 & ASSE 12000

The class will meet twice a week for 9 weeks.

  • NFPA 99 5.1.10.11.10
  • ASSE 6010 10-3.2
  • ASSE 12010, 12030, 12040

Qualification of Installers:

  • NFPA 99 5.1.10.11.10.1 – The installation of medical gas and vacuum systems shall be made by qualified, competent technicians who are experienced in making such installations.
  • NFPA 99 5.1.10.11.10.2 – Installers of med gas and vacuum systems shall meet the requirements of ASSE 6010, Professional Qualifications Standards for Medical Gas Systems Installers
  • ASSE 6010 – Credentialing shall include the successful completion of a minimum 32-hour training course including a written and a practical examination covering all facets of ASSE Standard 6010 and NFPA 99.  The Course instruction is conducted by a Medical Gas Systems Instructor certified to ASSE 6050. Brazing procedures and brazer performance for the installation of medical gas and vacuum piping shall be qualified in accordance with either Section IX, Welding and Brazing Qualifications, of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, or AWS B2.2, Standard for Brazing Procedure and Performance Qualification.
  • ASSE 12000 (ICRA) – Certification shall include the successful completion of a minimum 12-hour training course including an online exam covering all facets of ASSE Standard 12010, 12030 &12040
    • 12010 – Biological pathogens professional qualification standard for construction and maintenance personnel
    • 12030 – Waterborne pathogens professional qualification standard for construction and maintenance personnel
    • 12040 – Professional qualification standard for construction and maintenance personnel for contamination/infection prevention procedures to protect facility occupants and operations

Medical Gas Refresher Class with ICRA Certification

The Medical Gas Refresher class prepares the student to take a 40 question open book test on the current edition of NFPA 99 and ASSE 6000. Upon successful completion with 80% on an NITC online exam, a practical test of brazing (if required) will be scheduled.

ASSE 12000 (ICRA) Certification will be included in the course. The certification shall include completion of a minimum 12-hour training including an online exam covering all facets of ASSE Standard 12010, 12030 & 12040.

The class will meet twice a week for 4 weeks, additional nights for the braze test if required

  • The books required for class are NFPA 99 current edition, ASSE 6000 current edition and ASSE 12000.

The Medical Gas Refresher class follows these guidelines and requirements.

If a brazing test is required, the brazing procedures and brazer performance for the installation of medical gas and vacuum piping shall be qualified in accordance with either Section IX, Welding and Brazing Qualifications, of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, or AWS B2.2, Standard for Brazing Procedure and Performance Qualification
  • ASSE 12000 (ICRA) 12010,12030 and 12040
    • 12010 – Biological pathogens professional qualification standard for construction and maintenance personnel
    • 12030 – Waterborne pathogens professional qualification standard for construction and maintenance personnel

Brazing Continuity Information

NITC braze continuity must be updated every six (6) months. To maintain braze continuity the cost to NITC is $50.00.  Continuity form and instructions are available on the NITC website (www.nationalitc.com). The form must be on company/contractor letterhead and be signed by employer/contractor.  An employer/contractor may set up for Online Continuity Submittal which is $40.00 every six months, or it can be done at the Training Center(s) for $40.00.

NOTE: THE UA-51 AND THE NITC BRAZE ARE SEPARATE. CONTINUITY MUST BE MAINTAINED ON EACH. Union Fusion will email a notification regarding the expiration on your UA-51 certification. NITC will NOT send a notification regarding renewal.  For more information regarding your NITC Medical Gas Certifications, please visit NITC website (Certification Look Up).  THE NITC RE-QUALIFICATION BRAZE FEE IS $50.00 AND WOULD REQUIRE ONE A VERTICAL UP-FLOW TEST SAMPLE TO BE EXAMINED.
